Lammer Cottage is a spacious farm cottage, ideally located for East Lothian’s beautiful countryside and stunning beaches. Its characterful stone built exterior opens into a fresh, relaxed country interior. Step into the large entrance vestibule, kick off your muddy boots and relax. The cottage has an open plan dining and social area with seating for up to 6 people, which leads onto a small but well-equipped kitchen with all the essentials for holiday living. The sitting room is a cosy retreat with a wood burning stove as the focal point, perfect for snuggling up with a good book, playing a board game or two, or watching the latest box set on Netflix. Next to the sitting room is the conservatory, a bright spacious spot to relax and enjoy the vast views across the rich rolling hillside.
Also on the ground floor is a beautiful, spacious bedroom with a king size bed, a large, bright family bathroom with bath, shower, WC and wash basin, and a utility room. A set of stairs leads to a spacious upstairs area including the perfect spot for whiling away the hours and taking in the view, two bedrooms which are comfortably appointed with super-king beds and fresh crisp linen, a bright family bathroom, a large storage cupboard for all of those suitcases, and a chill out area with a sofa bed, TV, magazines and games.
The large private front garden is perfect for football, rounders, picnics or a sunrise yoga session. Have a soak in the hot tub and take in the breath taking views. Make the most of the space and gather around a feast sharing time with family or friends.
There is a fire pit and log seating area in the woodland next to the cottage – ideal for marshmallow toasting and campfire singalongs. There is also plenty to spot in terms of wildlife, including hares, badgers, owls, rabbits, bats and myriad birdlife.

Trudi was just the perfect host, very Attentive, friendly and supper supper quick at replying! The property was easy to find following the instructions given to us, the rooms were of a great size for the group number we had. Trudi was very accommodating with us taking young children and had the beds made up for our arrival, we had asked Trudi about a possible BBQ and this was also left out for our arrival make it easy to do as we knew were everything was. The property has lots of games so you were never left without anything to do, a lovely big table for us all to sit at! My first time booking through air b n b and I was not disappointed, I have recommended this to family and friends and will be back!
Had a great weekend, cottage was absolutely beautiful and loved all the little touches like having robes, slippers, etc. Hot tub and views were amazing (even in the snow).
Trudi was a great host and kept in touch during our stay to make sure everything was okay. We even had a visit from her beautiful dog “Pip” who came looking for some dog biscuits and was so well behaved!
Would definitely recommend and will hopefully be back soon.
Lammer Cottage at Carfrae Farm was the perfect mini getaway for our family having not had chance to holiday this year. The cottage itself is just delightful and has lovely open views over the local hills. It is very tastefully decorated giving it a really cosy and comfortable feel. Trudi the owner was lovely and made sure we had everything we needed and provided lots of detailed information in the info pack to do with cottage appliances and local things to see and do. I brought so much from home as we’ve arrived at other places in the past and not so much as a toilet roll was provided, however this cottage really catered for all our needs with towels, dressing gowns, sheets, hair dryers, kitchen towels, cleaning products, soap and shower gel etc. even family board games! The cottage was exceptionally clean (COVID safe measures in place) and the hot tub was the perfect tonic after a stressful few weeks! We would certainly love to return one day. We loved the area too and visited North Berwick, Dunbar, Tinninghame beach and Haddington all within close proximity to Carfrae. We had a fantastic meal at the Goblin Ha pub in Gifford and the Waterside bistro in Haddington (can highly recommend!) The only downside was having to leave!Thank you for a lovely stay.
We stayed here for a girls weekend and upon arrival all 8 of us were impressed with how clean the cottage was and seemed exactly what we paid for. Dressing gowns, slippers and towels all provided which was good. Quickly we noticed the freezer was all frozen over so could not be used. The owner Trudi appeared at the door to introduce her self and seemed nice and welcoming, we explained about the freezer and we were given a solution to put our frozen items in the freezer next door but due to this being inconvenient for us we declined this offer. Before settling in we all decided bed arrangements, a double bed downstairs, 2 rooms but big beds up stairs and also a room with a single bed which meant one of the girls ended up sleeping on the floor but just brushed this off as after a few drinks wouldn’t have been a huge issue all though when booking a cottage for 8 people would have expected 8 bed spaces.
Shortly after 10pm Trudi appeared at the door and asked if would turn our music down, be immediately done this and no further issues were raised about the noise.
The next morning round about 8.30am Trudi and her partner appeared at the door and asked “have fun in the hot tub last night?” to which we explained no one had used yet. Then to be told that it was actually switched off and asking questions and making statements which felt as if we were getting the blame for this issue which nobody knew anything about. Upon closer inspection Trudi checked the fuse box and the issue was quickly resolved.
After breakfast and cleaning up a couple of the girls tried to use the dishwasher and again this was not working. When Trudi was informed again this was made out to be a shock and made comments as if it was something one of us had done. We offered her to come in and check but she did not.
Throughout the stay it felt difficult to relax as the kitchen and dinning area had no curtains and felt like had no privacy. From the kitchen window you could see right out to where the owners house was and on a few occasions could see them in the garden and felt like we were constantly being watched.
Just wow, this cottage exceeded all of our expectations. We had a fantastic time staying here for a girls weekend. The cottage is spacious yet cosy and had everything we needed and more. The garden is a lot bigger than we expected, lots of space and gorgeous views. Was perfect for us and we spent much of our time enjoying the garden space. The surroundings are just idyllic and you really feel like you’re away from it all. We couldn’t have felt more welcomed by our hosts, the loveliest couple. Highly recommend and hope to come back!
Everything about the cottage is excellent from the moment you arrive.
The cottage is spotless, set in beautiful grounds and with wonderful views.
The cottage has everything you could possibly want or need.
An easy 40 minute drive to Edinburgh but lots to do closer to home.
Beware of the hares, rabbits and badgers at night on the road to Carfrae, so drive slowly!
Great location for relaxing, enjoying time with family. Quiet but in easy access for towns and villages near by. The hot tub was such a great added bonus and so clean and well looked after. Our family spent hours outside in the garden playing in the open space, sitting and relaxing. Would recommend. Trudi, Eric and Louise were so welcoming and helpful
Beautiful accommodation in a beautiful location with a perfect host.
I think you could of honestly asked Trudi for anything and if she could she would accommodate. Was made to feel so welcome.
The cottage was perfect in every way and all amenities you need plus some. Peaceful location with regular visits from the wildlife – I particularly enjoyed watching the hares from the kitchen window.
Hot tub was clean and was checked twice daily. Bedding was crisp and house immaculate – actually can’t wait to come back. The perfect retreat to slow down and relax – 5 stars all round ⭐️
We had an excellent stay at Trudi’s cottage for my sister hen party! She was extra accommodating during the booking stage and during our stay! The cottage is in a lovely rural area but still not far from local amenities. Couldn’t fault the property and was excellent value for the money.
Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone
