City and Country Escapes

At Carfrae Farm we have been keeping busy by renovating one of our cottages, planning new activities and maintaining the farm so we are ready to open our doors when restrictions allow. We are excited to announce that we will be opening a third cottage called Kilduff and are now taking bookings! Renovations are on track and we are refining the finer details for our guests to enjoy.
As this is our first newsletter we thought it would be good to start by explaining the meaning behind the names of a couple of our cottages, Traprain and Lammer, which are popular landmarks in East Lothian.

Traprain Law
A familiar landmark in East Lothian, Traprain Law is situated 4 miles east of Haddington. Traprain Law is a hill which is the site of the Traprain Law Treasure which is the largest Roman silver hoard from anywhere outside the Roman Empire. A short, steep climb to the summit reveals an extensive view over the county, equally Traprain Law can be spotted from Carfrae! When walking you can expect to see up to 13 exmoor ponies who are permanent residents at Traprain Law.

Lammermuir Hills
The Lammermuirs are a range of hills in the south of Scotland which form a natural boundary between East Lothian and the borders. Our guests are able to discover new places while walking on one of the various trails the Lamermuirs has to offer. At Carfrae Farm we offer guided walks for either a half or full day and the walks go from Harestone Hill to Lammer Law via Hopes Reservoir. Whilst walking you can expect to come across a wide array of birds and wildlife. Check out our website for more information on how to book!

Bring your bike and pack your walking boots to enjoy the vast space outdoors at Carfrae Farm!
